Michael H. Price's FORGOTTEN HORRORS series of film encyclopedias lurches along through the 1950s with FORGOTTEN HORRORS VOL. 6 UP FROM THE DEPTHS -- a chronicle of the horror-movie revival of 1955-1957, with insightful contributions from Jan Alan Henderson and John Wooley. The rise of Roger Corman and Ray Harryhausen, the trendsetting teenage-monster cycle of Herman Cohen, the obsessions with gigantism of Bert I. Gordon, the emergence of Hammer Films, the unheralded genius of monster-maker Paul Blaisdell -- all are here, along with studies and sketches of numerous films of both prominence and obscurity. Price's unique study of the relationship between the horror-comics scare of the post-WWII years and the resurgence of horror in film rounds out the package -- a 300-page marvel of pop-cultural insights, perceptive social criticism, and irresponsible cheap thrills.

I have and enjoyed reading the first five books in this series, but this volume is the best yet. It covers those wonderful B genre films of my youth. Here you'll find crab monsters, colossal beasts, future mutants and pod people. Author Price does a fine job of synopsizing the films and giving the reader interesting background information on the making of the films and the people involved. A terrific read from cover to cover.Product details

Forgotten Horrors Vol 6 Up from the Depths edition by Michael H Price John Wooley Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
Michael H. Price and his partners-in-crime illuminate the wellsprings of 1950s genre films—horror, sf, fantasy, and bizarre noir/crime—with unerring accuracy and ever-entertaining insights. The FORGOTTEN HORRORS book series (launched in 1986, so quite a pedigree) continues to offer fresh analysis of familiar titles—the first Roger Corman films, the first solo Ray Harryhausen stop-motion-animation gems, etc.—alongside first-time excavations of movies nobody has ever written about, teasing out what was really going on in terms of the industry of movie-making and exhibition. I can't recommend this book series, every volume, highly enough!
Excellent! A very good read. Wonderful information presented in a conversational style. If your a fan of low budget films this series should be a must read.
Most enjoyable for a B-movie buff, which I am. It's just good stuff.
