Three hundred years in the future after stringent population control and eugenics programs have been adopted as the salvation of mankind, tensions on Earth drive a variety of malcontents to accept the singular opportunity to colonize Mars in exchange for reproductive freedom, but their varying viewpoints on the issue result in bitter conflicts and reluctant alliances as they struggle to forge a new path by salvaging ancient wisdoms cast aside centuries before.

This novel was fantastic! It's well developed characters are complex and human. I was able to relate to many and found the dialogue to be well paced and believable. Initially the suspense of waiting for the adventure may have you question your choice, but just wait and read... the story explores a part of humanity that is often glanced over in most novels or inaccurately portrayed. Progeny delves into the undercurrents of sexism and reproductive rights in a society that believes it is devoid of misogyny. It leads you on a trail that has you question whether innate human physiology is inherently dangerous or gloriously right, when given adequate support. How will we as humans evolve when our reproduction is mechanized and will humanity ever regain their bodily autonomy? Will they regain what humanity in this society has seemingly lost over the hundreds of years of reproductive control as Mars is colonized? All of this and more will be between the covers of this book. You will enjoy the ride.Product details

Progeny A Science Fiction epic of humanity stolen and reclaimed Primogenitor Book 1 eBook CL Fors Reviews
Fresh new story line. The author seems to have done extensive study of artificial reproduction, as the medical and scientific references are excellent. Well written and not too "flowery", yet is descriptive enough to make you feel like you can see the scene. Kudos!
Progeny explores what it means to be human. I loved the characters and became deeply invested in their lives and stories. In the world of Progeny Mankind has lost it's way and it's concept of what it means to be human. Here an intrepid band of explorers seek a new start on the Red Planet. It's not just about adapting the Mars, it's about becoming Martians and embracing the power of birth. A great read. by any measure
This is an excellent story that deals with concepts that we typically do not think about in our day-to-day lives. It's so refreshing to read new subject matter, especially dealing with reproductive rights and the ability to reproduce in an uncertain future shaped by environmental destruction and interplanetary travel and colonization. Excellent and very attention-grabbing!
It is always refreshing to see a new perspective in a classic genre. Progeny focuses heavily on human, social/political questions, with a decidedly feminine voice. Elements of futuristic technology are strongly presented and seem well-researched. The book is well-paced and the writing is pleasantly descriptive but not too ornate. The story follows a cast of ensemble characters, each lovingly developed over the course of multiple chapters. This definitely has the feel of a first book in a series, so there is a lot of time taken for setup and development and not as much action. In fact, it is generally not an action-packed thrill ride if you need a lot of laser guns and slime-drooling aliens in your SciFi, this is maybe not the book for you. But if you are interested in a thoughtful exploration of issues such as reproductive rights and institutionalized misogyny as they might arise in a futuristic Martian colony, you will want to give Progeny a try.
I started skeptical with a novel exploring the concept of motherhood and pregnancy - as a man, how could I relate? But just as other fictions have me relating with automatons, space travelers, and Kobolds, relating to female-centric issues isn't much of a stretch.
Progeny introduces a cast of characters. At the opening, the supporting cast seemed very one note, aside from our protagonist. Characters obviously written to be loathed. But as the protagonist continues her journey, the characters she meets become more complex, thoroughly written, and with well crafted motives, back stories, and goals.
Like any good fiction, Progeny brings a lot of issues into the narrative women's reproductive rights, fetii's rights to complete gestation, individual freedom vs security, needs of the individual vs needs of the group, and the notion of necessary evils.
A great read, and I look forward to reading the upcoming installments!
Progeny is a novel about Earth to Mars colonization that could be called bio-science-fiction. The tale follows the main character Theresa, as she battles for the right to save progeny that have been destined for termination. At the beginning of the story she discovers that she can save only one, before escaping on a mission to Mars.
Don't expect a lot of action and thrills, as most of the plot is in the tension and conflict between the characters and organizations that think they control women's reproductive rights. I don't want to give too many spoilers away as you'll want to read it for yourself. This story has a good pace, and I enjoyed learning about the main characters and what the Earth and Mars are like in the future.
Looking forward, I hope to read the next two novels in the story as they’re released.
A very interesting concept, dealing with realities that, sadly, might be in our own near future. The writing is excellent, the world well thought out. A quality science fiction debut!
